France taking fight against terrorism to schools

France is trying a new tack in combatting jihadism, though there's still flaws in their approach that need to be avoided:
To stop the stream of French youths pursuing jihad in Syria, France is preparing to try to tackle terrorism before it starts, by involving schools, parents and local Muslim leaders, The Associated Press has learned.

This is part of a still-confidential plan prompted by fears that young radicals who travel to Syria could return home with the skills and motivation to carry out attacks - a Europe-wide concern. French officials say the plan will be made public soon.

The fears resurfaced last week when authorities revealed the discovery near Cannes of three soda cans packed with nails, bolts and explosives plus bomb-making instructions at the apartment of a 23-year-old man who had returned from Syria. Memories are still fresh of a radical Muslim Frenchman who gunned down children at a Toulouse Jewish school in 2012, after training in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

To combat terrorism, France amassed one of the West's toughest legal arsenals following terror attacks in the 1990s, focusing on prosecuting proven extremists instead of trying to prevent radicalization.
While this is welcome and necessary, involving Muslim leaders is still very risky, because they could be deceptive and otherwise sabotage the effort to curb Islamofascism. They're going to have to be careful with that part if they want to lead a convincing effort to stop jihadists from spawning.

G. Willow Wilson has no idea what "different" means

The propagandist writing the Muslim Ms. Marvel series was interviewed by the LA Times, along with one of the editors, and continues as expected with her dishonesty and taqqiya, along with the paper's writers too:
The new “Ms. Marvel” was a media sensation months before her first adventure was published: Kamala Khan, the girl behind the superhero’s mask, would be Marvel’s first Muslim character to star in her own title.
Umm, they just explained the situation - it's a media sensation, not an audience sensation.
But what shape her comic book series would take, and whether sales would match the hype, remained to be seen.
Oh, they matched the "hype" alright. It sold only 50,000 at best, though they're going out of their way to pretend it's a blockbuster on a movie level by doing a second printing, probably so they can clutter up the bargain bins. Must be common practice in modern comics publishing.
“People love to talk about new and different,” said “Ms. Marvel” writer G. Willow Wilson. “They don’t always love to buy and read new and different.”
They like new and different so long as it adheres to sanity and honesty, along with respect for civilized values. Something lacking in today's medium.
The fear in debuting such a risky character, series editor Sana Amanat said, is always: “If we do something like this, is it a gimmick?”
The answer is yes. Whitewashing the Religion of Peace, refusing to be open about the Koran/Hadith's contents, presenting a serious subject without transparency, that's what I call a gimmick meant to alienate the wider public, including members of 9-11 Families.
As “Ms. Marvel” No. 1 heads to a third printing and next month’s No. 3 approaches, early indications are that the teenage Kamala’s story has resonated with readers – and drawn new customers into comic stores. The debut issue, released in February, sold out its first printing and finished in the top 25 of more than 400 titles on Diamond Comic Distributors’ chart of sales to comic shops for the month. And Marvel said it was the publisher’s top digital comics seller last month, besting even issues of “All-New X-Men” and “Superior Spider-Man.”
I don't suppose they'd be willing to give us those exact sales numbers? I've said it before, and I'll say it again, anyone who takes a good look at those sales charts will laugh at how low they sell compared to movies and music tapes, and I'm skeptical the numbers were very high for Marvel's digital sales either if they didn't give exact figures.
At the center of the series’ story is 16-year-old Jersey City, N.J., Avengers fan fiction writer Kamala Khan, a daughter of Pakistani Muslim immigrants who loves the smell of bacon – “delicious, delicious infidel meat,” she jokingly calls it – but abides by the rules of her faith and doesn’t eat it. She is an American, but has a different background than her classmates and struggles to find a sense of belonging.
Ah, here we again have the reason not all Muslims are bound to be enthused. Even if she doesn't devour it, the line about merely checking its aroma is only bound to meet with dislike by the most hardcore Islamists. Simultaneously, using the term "infidel" is insulting because of the inferiority status it implies for non-Muslims.
...the writer notes that polymorphs in comics are most often shown as bad guys, a la the mutant villainess Mystique.

“It made sense that if were going to attack one set of stereotypes, we might as well take on them all,” she said.
Tell us about it. As I noted before, Metamorpho, Plastic Man, Mr. Fantastic and even Dr. Strange could count as polymorphs, so her argument falls totally flat.
Alongside “Captain Marvel,” “She-Hulk,” “Black Widow” and the upcoming “Elektra,” “Ms. Marvel” is part of a wave of Marvel superheroine titles that are born of a growing, enthusiastic female comics readership, one that fills room after bigger room at boisterous Women of Marvel panels. Their stories are more character exploration, less exploitation.
If they're going to flood their output with company-wide crossovers, that's disputable, and besides, not only did Marvel succeed in alienating much of the casual readership over the past decade, they alienated plenty of women too. Destroying the Spider-marriage and banishing Mary Jane Watson from prominent stardom was one of the biggest straws that broke the camel's back.
Hers and Alphona’s series was in for some expected heat upon announcement because of sometimes intense feelings about Islam in America, but it also was not going to be immune from criticism from Muslims.

Kamala’s family dynamics could have been a touchy issue, though each individual member is ultimately treated sympathetically. Her father complains that her very devout brother is using religion to avoid getting a job; her mother, too, worries that Aamir will be a “penniless mullah.” And there’s Kamala’s curiosity about that forbidden bacon.

“I think people, especially in the Muslim community, are rightly cautious any time you hear, ‘Oh, there’s going to be a Muslim character,’” said Wilson. “People’s guard immediately goes up because often what are portrayed in the media as ‘sympathetic’ characters end up rehashing the same stereotypes and racist baggage that all of the unsympathetic characters have reflected.”
Well at least they're honest about her writing's chances of turning off devout Muslims too. But not about using religion to avoid getting jobs, since in Europe - and in the USA too - there are Muslims who've lived off welfare, based on their religion's and its advocates' approval, and many have no problem with their children doing it either. Which makes Wilson's argument in the story a falsehood.
But, she said, she and Amanat were confident that “when the book actually came out and people saw how the characters were represented in the series, that they would be reassured. That’s pretty much what happened.”
Sigh. Another falsehood.
In addition to having Kamala figuring out origin-story stuff, Wilson said the first arc will set up a potential supervillain adversary. Amanat added that they have big plans for the next year of “Ms. Marvel,” including bringing Kamala more into the Marvel Universe story and exploring her being an Inhuman (the mist that transformed Kamala is from that superpowered race’s Terrigen Bomb, seen in Marvel’s “Infinity” event), plus guest appearances in the title.
Oh, so now they're going to tie her in with the Inhumans? Right, that's just what we all need. I think we're better off not knowing who the villain will be either. Wilson's sounded no differently here than in any of her other interviews.

(Flight MH370) We never said the plane actually ‘crashed,’ Malaysia insists
Malaysia took issue with the word “crash’’ today, saying the official government statement on March 24, never said so.
Words like “Crash" or “no survivors" had never been mentioned by Prime Minister Najib Razak (Pictured reading the statement on March 24) when announcing that the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 “ended’’ in the southern Indian Ocean on March 24.

BLOCKBUSTER: THIS IS ACCURATE AND NOW 100 PERCENT CONFIRMED: HIJACKED IBM ENGINEER PHILIP WOOD SUCCESSFULLY DIALED OUT OF DIEGO GARCIA

2ND UPDATE AT BOTTOM

UPDATE - THIS STORY MAY BE FALSE.

THE CONSERVATIVE TREEHOUSE IS A PRETTY WELL-KNOWN BLOG AND I DO NOT RECALL THEM PUTTING OUT FALSE INFORMATION BEFORE.

HOWEVER, NONE OF THE IMAGES SHOW UP AND THE TRAIL LEADS BACK TO BEFORE IT'S NEWS, WHICH IS A SITE I DON'T GENERALLY TRUST.

HMM.

Hat tip: Conservative Treehouse
via GatewayPundit comment to: MISSING #MH370: Australia Detects Distress Signal in Southern Indian Ocean

The image was indeed taken from an iPhone 5 on March 18th 2014 at 8:48:41 pm (20:49:41) and the embedded location shows the image was taken in the South Indian Ocean at/around a U.S. military base on Diego Garcia.

2ND UPDATE - Nico writes to say:

Just saw the post on IBA about the IBM guy getting kidnapped and heroically sent some image with a voice recorded message.
I followed the links and saw that the folks had based all their arguments on EXIF data being "extremely hard to change" and if it is changed "it ALWAYS leaves traces unless you're some sort of a hacker". Well, uh, that is BS.
I already knew this was BS because of a couple of things:
1) I have personally obtained and changed metadata from JPEG files as part of a class in computer science that I took a year ago. I did that programmatically but there's no reason programs can't be created to read and edit that data. The guy on one of the websites says that it is so hard to change EXIF data, and to prove how hard it is he asks people to open the JPEG file in Notepad...Well of course its going to look like gibberish.
Let me give you an example: In programming, sentences like "Hello Pasto" are known as "Strings". In Java, for example, Strings are known as Objects. If you try and print out an Object in raw form, even if it is a String saying "Hello Pasto", it is going to come out as gibberish. The reason for that is that everything is turned into assembly and then machine code for the computer to read. Assembly code is mostly in Hex values, aka, gibberish. For things to be human readable, they have to be put through different methods/functions.
Anyway, a long winded way to just say that the guy was basically BSing or has no idea what he's talking about.
2) ANY data, literally, any data on computers can be changed. It can be extremely easy to extremely hard depending on what one is trying to change but computers and data stored on them, at the end of the day, is just 0s and 1s. EXIF's are no different. There's no unwritten law that says that software changing EXIF has to leave traces. EXIF is just a standard agreed to by folks to be able to easily read and share location, camera, lens etc information, nothing else. Just like JPEG is a standard, or PNG is a standard, or even PDF is a standard.
Anywho, based on these assumptions I thought I'd do some investigative work. So I took my Xbox 360 controller (its covered in dust because I haven't had the time to play it in a while lol) and took a picture of it using my iPhone 4. Then I downloaded some easily and freely available software and changed some, not all because I just couldn't be bothered. Uploaded the image to 4chan (because most legit websites strip the EXIF data from images to protect people's personal data from being exposed) and then used the same website used by Conservative Treehouse to extract EXIF information. Here's the link to what I uploaded. You should find it extremely interesting:
http://www.findexif.com/?l=UScWkLdPSHw#results

Notice some things here. First the location. If you zoom out of the map, you will see me sitting right there in the middle of the ocean off the coast of California. Then the Date/Time says March 31, 1914. The brand of the device is Banana. And the model is iPhone 28. I could have also changed the OS which is 7.02 but I didn't really bother with it because iPhone 28's 7.02 is awesome!
Anyway, so according to this image and its EXIF metadata, I went back in time, took my iPhone 28 made by Banana with me, took a picture of an Xbox Controller from back then (sitting on a wooden table, mind you), while floating in the middle of the ocean off the coast of California.

"Dr Mohammad Ghouse Noor, a close friend of Zaharie said that the tabloid was spreading lies and that their report was slanderous.

Dr Ghouse, moderator of the "Friends of Captain Zaharie MH370" Facebook page said he had spoken to a very close member of Zaharie's family, including Zaharie's son, who has strongly condemned the report.

"It's a total lie, where do they get this story from? ..."

[snip]

"When contacted, Dr Ghouse said that the photos used in the tabloid were not of Capt Zaharie's family or his wife.

"There isn't a photo of his wife. It's actually Zaharie's niece's family and nothing to do with Faezah," he said.

Australia PM says there is no time limit on Malaysia jet search
PERTH - Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Monday the hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 had no time limit, despite the failure of an international operation to find any sign of the plane in three weeks of fruitless searching.
A total of 20 aircraft and ships were again scouring a massive area in the Indian Ocean some 2,000 km (1,200 miles) west of Perth, where investigators believe the Boeing 777 carrying 239 people came down.
"I'm certainly not putting a time limit on it," Abbott told reporters after meeting flight crews at Pearce airbase in Perth.
"The intensity of our search and the magnitude of our operations is increasing, not decreasing," he said, adding that searchers owed it to grieving families of passengers to continue the hunt.

Former IRS Official Lois Lerner Could Go to Prison on Contempt Charges

The Examiner reported:
This may come as a shock to Lois Lerner, but the House of Representatives has the authority to jail her unless she changes her mind about refusing to answer questions about her role in the IRS scandal. Essentially, what is required for that to happen is for a House majority to vote for a motion holding her in contempt and House Speaker John Boehner to then direct the House sergeant at arms to arrest and confine her. Under the Constitution, the House can do that under its “inherent contempt” authority, which was initially exercised in 1795 during the First Congress and on multiple occasions thereafter. Lerner could be held until January 2015 when a new Congress is seated, which could issue another subpoena and throw her in the clink again if she still balks at testifying.
I don't think she WILL go to prison.

Eric Holder has been being held in Contempt of Congress for almost two years now, and he's not in prison.

A terror suspect who trained the ringleader of the 7/7 terrorist bombings in London has been allowed to set up an Islamic primary school, teaching children as young as three, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
As a member of a banned extremist group, Sajeel Shahid, 38, called for violence against British troops and ran a training camp in Pakistan where known terrorists learned how to make bombs and fire rocket- propelled grenades.
One of his ‘graduates’ was Mohammed Siddique Khan, who led the gang of four suicide bombers on the deadliest terrorist attack ever committed in Britain, killing 52 people on the London Underground and a bus on July 7, 2005.

Obamacare in Action: Covered California Sends Out Voter Registration Cards Pre-Marked for Democrat Party

From ABC News:

LA MESA, Calif. - A local couple called 10News concerned after they received an envelope from the state's Obamacare website, Covered California. Inside was a letter discussing voter registration and a registration card pre-marked with an "x" in the box next to Democratic Party.
The couple – who did not want their identity revealed – received the letter and voter registration card from their health insurance provider Covered California, the state-run agency that implements President Obama's Affordable Care Act.
They have lived in La Mesa for years and they have always been registered to vote Republican. Now, they are perplexed as to how the voter registration card pre-marked Democrat ended up in their mailbox.
“I'm an old guy and I never would have noticed it, except I have an accountant that notices every dot and dash on a piece of paper as a wife,” said the man who received the mailer.
Covered California began mailing out voter signup cards to nearly 4 million enrollees last week after being threatened with a lawsuit by voting rights groups. But that does not explain the pre-filled out voter registration card.
“It's a waste of money because there's an awful lot of people who are going to get this that are already registered and they don't need to. I can see that, but I can't see putting x on the form before it's given to me in a little bitty box that nobody's really going to notice,” said the recipient of the mailer.
10News shared what was sent with Covered California.
Spokeswoman Anne Gonzales stated, "We are mailing voter registration material. However, the application forms come directly from the Secretary of State's office, with no fields pre-marked. The individual should contact the Secretary of State, which takes these violations of election law extremely seriously, and they will investigate, using the unique serial number."
The couple says they did reach out to the Secretary of State’s office and could not get a hold of anyone. They also say they reached out to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters, which told them to contact Covered California.

Women's Rights is the "Decisive Point"

Using the strategy of "concentrating forces at the decisive point," which you can read about here, the question is, "What is the decisive point?" In a military battle, one good criteria for a decisive point of attack is where the enemy is weakest. In our goal of marginalizing, discrediting, and disempowering orthodox Islam, what is the biggest weakness of Islamic doctrine?

Answer: Women's rights.

In the time and place we now find ourselves, the most effective place to attack — the most effective place to discredit orthodox Islam — is on the topic of human rights for women. Islamic doctrine, as applied in Muslim-majority countries all over the world, and even as applied by immigrants in free countries, measurably and inhumanely restricts women's rights. Islamic fundamentalism and human rights for women are incompatible. Where you have one, you will not have the other.

But when we concentrate our forces on this decisive point, we must do it in a way that unites a huge majority of us, including some of those who still naively think Islam is just one of many similar religions. So this has to be done skillfully.

I believe that's what Ayaan Hirsi Ali has done with the documentary, Honor Diaries. The production value of the film is very high. The women chosen for the film are acceptable to mainstream multiculturalists. The film doesn't feel anti-Islam. I think most of the people who see this film wouldn't feel it attacks Islam. And yet it effectively exposes orthodox Islam as a cruel, outdated, extremely misogynistic ideology that should be marginalized, discredited, and disempowered wherever it shows its ugly head.

In other words, Honor Diaries has the potential to push a major axiom of the counterjihad movement into the mainstream. The film may cause this fundamental position of the counterjihad community to shed its "fringe" stigma forevermore.

The approach is brilliant and the film is outstanding. We should use it as a weapon against the ignorance that now keeps our population vulnerable to creeping Sharia.

The Good Must Associate: Key Strategies in the Counterjihad Movement

To prevail against orthodox Islam's relentless encroachment, we need to employ three essential strategies: gather allies, coordinate our efforts, and concentrate our forces at decisive points. Let me explain these in more detail:

1. Gather allies. A large number of orthodox Muslims are working toward Islam's prime directive. Obviously three counterjihadists will not prevail against such a large, organized group. We need numbers. The more allies we have on our side, the greater our chances of winning.

If three of us demonstrate outside a mosque, and five hundred Muslims protest our demonstration, we will look like a small, unpopular fringe group and the Muslims will look like the mainstream majority opinion. This kind of thing has a psychological impact on anyone watching this on television because of the principle of social proof. But if five hundred Muslims demonstrate and ten thousand counterjihadists protest their demonstration, it sends an entirely different message to anyone watching on television or participating in the demonstration. Numbers count.

That's why it is so crucial to educate people about Islam. We need more people on our side.

Many Citizen Warrior readers took to heart the article, Facebook Allies, and applied the principle, and it made a difference. The purpose of the article was to solve a problem counterjihadists were having on Facebook — they would share something about Islam, and their Facebook friends and family would gang up on them, arguing, criticizing them, and defending Islam. It was upsetting to a lot of counterjihadists. It made them feel isolated and alone. And to their friends and family, it made them look like factious, disaffected loners who needed to be straightened out by the "sensible majority."

So people went to counterjihad Facebook pages (here is a list of them) and read comments and posts, looking for allies, and friended them. Then when any of their allies posted something on their personal Facebook page about Islam, they would receive lots of support and "likes" and approving comments from their allies, and if one of their family members criticized it, their allies would jump in and defend it, and each ally does that for each other.

This feels a lot better, is much less upsetting, and has a greater impact on anyone reading. The original poster no longer appears as an isolated agitator, but rather has become a spokesperson for a popular, supported point of view. The key strategy at work here is gaining allies.

This is one of the reasons ACT! for America is such an important organization to the counterjihad movement. As Brigitte Gabriel says, when the ACT! for America lobbyist walks into a senator's office in Washington, D.C. she can say she represents an organization of almost a million voters, and that's enough to make a senator listen! If the lobbyist represented an organization of forty people, would a senator take the time to listen? Not likely. They are busy people. Numbers give clout.

2. Coordinate efforts. If there were a hundred thousand active counterjihadists, but each worked on different projects, we wouldn't accomplish much. But if most of us worked on a few central projects, those projects would be much more likely to succeed.

That's what we did by writing to Councilwoman Deborah Pauly (see story here). She was vilified by Muslim groups and the media. She probably felt outnumbered, and for many people, that would make them hesitant to speak up again. On the other hand, if she heard from thousands of people who support her and encourage her, it could embolden her to continue her outspoken resistance to creeping Sharia. Coordinated efforts could make the difference.

ACT! for America is using this principle masterfully with their Legislative Action Center. It has made it very easy to make our voices heard by the right people on specific issues. It helps coordinate counterjihad efforts.

3. Concentrate force at a decisive point. This is where allies and coordination can have their greatest impact. In the book, How to Win on the Battlefield, the authors write, "The concentration of force was regarded by Clausewitz as the first and highest principle of war. He reiterated that, at the operational level, commanders had to concentrate maximum force, which in his day equated to all available troops, at the decisive point; it was essential to overwhelm and break the enemy physically and morally."

Many times in history, a military force was outnumbered and yet won the battle. Often it was because the principle of concentration of force does not require absolute superiority in numbers. It only requires a local superiority at a decisive point.

When women were fighting to gain the vote in the United States, for example, they had to get 36 states to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution. Women's suffrage organizations sent organizers from all over the country to the state that was considering the legislation at that moment, thus concentrating their forces at the decisive point.

That is what we must do. The big question for all of us is, of course, "What is the decisive point?" As Brian Tracy said in Victory: "Determining the right time and place requires a combination of judgment, timing," and good information (good "intel").

We're getting much better information now than we did at the beginning of the modern counterjihad movement, and we're getting it much faster. And through our formal and informal networks, we are collectively making good judgments on where to concentrate our forces. Some calls for action are shared far and wide, and some fizzle out, as each person essentially "votes" on the proposal (by either forwarding or deleting).

Our networks are getting bigger. Our numbers are growing. And we're getting more and more organized. It's time to look at strategy. We can each begin by deliberately applying the three principles above. When you're thinking about some event or thinking about potential actions you might take, ask yourself, "How can I apply the three key strategies to this situation?" It will give you effective ideas and ways to proceed.

Edmund Burke once wrote, "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle."

So let us associate, let's organize, let's concentrate our forces, and let's win.

"That’s the kind of sentiment you expect from a Miss America contestant”

Charlie Krauthammer on Barack Obama saying:
“The United States does not view Europe as a battleground between East and West, nor do we see the situation in Ukraine as a zero-sum game. That’s the kind of thinking that should have ended with the Cold War.”
— Barack Obama, March 24
Should. Lovely sentiment. As lovely as what Obama said five years ago to the United Nations: “No one nation can or should try to dominate another nation.”
That’s the kind of sentiment you expect from a Miss America contestant asked to name her fondest wish, not from the leader of the free world explaining his foreign policy.
The East Europeans know they inhabit the battleground between the West and a Russia that wants to return them to its sphere of influence. Ukrainians see tens of thousands of Russian troops across their border and know they are looking down the barrel of quite a zero-sum game.
Obama thinks otherwise. He says that Vladimir Putin’s kind of neo-imperialist thinking is a relic of the past — and advises Putin to transcend the Cold War.
Good God. Putin hasn’t transcended the Russian revolution. Did no one give Obama a copy of Putin’s speech last week upon the annexation of Crimea?

“JUIFS - leave and re-enter through a back door to appease palestinians”

Jews are not the target of hate because of what Israel does or does not do. Israel is the target of such hate because it is full of Jews

PARIS, Israeli students visiting a Paris university were asked to leave and re-enter through a back door to appease pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
The request came from the president of the Paris VIII University, after 50 members of the anti-Israel Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement protested against their presence.
The Israelis were in Paris as part of a tour of French universities organised by the Union of Jewish Students in France (UEJF), designed to improve the image of Israel abroad and encourage dialogue on campus.
They had already visited universities in Lyon, Bordeaux and Assas without incident. But when they arrived at Paris VIII, where they had arranged to erect a stand and hold a conference, the protestors set up their own stand and lobbied students to boycott the conference.
UEJF president Sacha Reingewirtz said: They were chanting ‘Zionists get out,’ and ‘Zionists are criminals’. They were insulting, intimidating and trying to prevent students coming to our stand.”
One of the Israelis, Dan Taieb, said the protesters entered every lecture theatre to tell students not to attend the conference. As a result the meeting was cancelled.
The Israelis were invited to meet the university president, Danielle Tartakowsky, but were told they had to use a back door to get to her office.
Mr Taieb said: “She agreed to welcome us but she wanted us to go out of the main gate to show the protesters that we were leaving and then security would take us to a private gate behind the university to come back in.”
The group refused to comply. Mr Taieb said: “In Israel we don’t discriminate against students. Jews, Arabs — all students come through the same gate.”
Instead Ms Tartakowsky met members of the UEJF, to whom she apologised.
The university did not respond to a request for comment.
